Yes, but with a slight tweak: roti makers require dough that is softer and more hydrated than traditional rolling-pin dough. If the dough is too stiff, it will resist pressing and come out dense. For best results, knead the dough with slightly warmer water, add a few drops of oil, and let it rest covered for 15–20 minutes before making rotis.

While there is a brief 2–3 attempt learning curve to dial in dough softness and the 1-second press technique, Most of our first-time customers make hot, puffed phulkas within their first session. My Rotis Aren't Puffing Up—What Am I Doing Wrong?
A non-puffing roti usually boils down to three common factors:
- Hydrate & Rest: Knead the dough slightly softer than traditional belan dough, using an 80% hydration ratio (100g flour to 80ml warm water). Let it rest for 20 minutes to relax the gluten.
- The Swift Press: Place the dough ball centered on the plate. Press firmly for just one deliberate second—no more, no less.
- The Rise: Flip immediately after pressing. Cook for 10 seconds on each side, then close the lid gently to let trapped steam balloon it into a pillow-soft phulka.
